Berner

Quality, Performance, Design & Technology

Engineered for performance. Designed for real-world spaces.

Every Berner air curtain is built on four key pillars: precise manufacturing quality, independently verified performance, purposeful design, and intelligent technology. Together, they define the Berner standard and why engineers, architects, contractors, and facility managers trust Berner air curtains for long-term reliability, high performance, and seamless building integration.

As a leading U.S. air curtain manufacturer, Berner combines advanced air curtain engineering, certified performance testing, and modern controls technology to deliver solutions built for today’s commercial, industrial, and architectural environments.

The Berner Standard

At Berner, quality, performance, design, and technology are not independent aspirations — they are a cohesive engineering commitment that runs through every product we make. From the first sketch to the final factory test, each decision is evaluated against all four criteria simultaneously.

This page details what each pillar means in practice: how we manufacture, what our performance data proves, how we approach the aesthetics of functional equipment, and the control and integration technologies that make Berner units ideal for today’s intelligent building environments.

Quality

ISO-certified processes, in-house fabrication, and 100% final inspection ensure every unit ships to spec.

Performance

Third-party tested airflow data and documented energy savings back every performance claim we make.

Design

Multiple housing profiles and finishes let Berner units integrate cleanly into any commercial environment.

Technology

BACnet, Modbus, VSD variable speed drive controls, and door interlock automation bring Berner into modern building management systems.

Quality Manufacturing

Quality at Berner begins before manufacturing starts. Our ISO 9001:2015-certified quality management system governs every stage of production, from supplier qualification and incoming material inspection through in-process checks and final performance testing. Every unit is tested before it leaves our New Castle, PA facility.

By controlling the full manufacturing process in-house, sheet metal fabrication, motor winding, coil assembly, housing finishing, and final assembly, Berner eliminates the quality variability that comes with outsourced manufacturing.

Verified Performance

Performance claims for air curtains are only as credible as the testing behind them. Unlike manufacturers that rely on internal estimates or generalized airflow assumptions, Berner products are independently tested to Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) International standards by third-party laboratories, and our published airflow and infiltration reduction data is based on verified performance.

The result: engineers can specify with confidence, facility managers can more accurately estimate energy savings, and project teams have reliable documentation to meet code and certification requirements.

Purpose-Built Design

An air curtain must work in diverse environments. A quick-service drive-through, a hospital entrance, a high-end retail storefront, and a 40-foot cold storage door all present fundamentally different design constraints. Berner’s product lines are engineered to address this range, offering multiple styles, profiles, and finishes that let each unit integrate cleanly into its environment.

Berner products are designed to complement the surrounding environment, not compete with it.

We’ve conducted extensive research with architects and design professionals to better understand how air curtains should function within modern commercial spaces. The result is a portfolio of architecturally inspired air curtains that balance performance, aesthetics, sound levels, and integration.

Controls & Technology

Modern facilities demand intelligent air curtain technology with advanced controls, automation, and seamless Building Management System (BMS) integration. As a recognized leader in air curtain BMS connectivity, Berner develops its hardware, firmware, and software in-house to simplify integration, improve reliability, and support long-term performance.

VSD models automatically adjust airflow based on door activity, helping reduce energy use while maintaining effective environmental separation. This adaptive performance is documented and measurable, making it easy to validate savings for LEED or energy reporting requirements.
