Berner air curtains are designed to support performance, safety, sanitation, and energy efficiency requirements across commercial, industrial, food service, and healthcare applications.
Building Codes & Energy Standards
Supporting Modern Energy & Building Requirements
From AMCA-certified performance and UL safety listings to NSF sanitation certifications and energy code support, Berner provides the testing and documentation needed to help simplify specification and compliance.

ASHRAE 90.1-2025 § 5.4.3.4 and 6.5.8
Berner products meet ASHRAE energy compliance standards permitting air curtains as an alternative to vestibules when minimum velocity 400 fpm is demonstrated at 6" above the sill level, spanning 100% of the opening. Also provides loading dock door radiant heat exemption.

International Energy Conservation Code (IECC 2024) - Air Curtain Alternative
IECC C402.6.67 provides a parallel vestibule exception path to ASHRAE 90.1. Many jurisdictions adopt IECC rather than ASHRAE; compliance requirements are substantially similar.

International Green Construction Code (IgCC) 2024
Berner air curtains help reduce HVAC energy demand and improve environmental separation at building openings, supporting the sustainability and efficiency initiatives outlined by the International Code Council.
Third-Party Certifications
Independently Tested. Performance Verified.
Berner products are backed by recognized third-party certifications that validate safety, sanitation, and air performance.

AMCA Certified Performance
Tested to AMCA standards for airflow, uniformity, velocity projection, and power rating. Required by many specifiers for code-compliant submittals.

UL Certification
Select Berner air curtains are UL certified for electrical safety. Confirms compliance with nationally recognized safety standards for commercial and industrial applications.

cUL Certification
A number of Berner products carry the C-UL mark and meet applicable Canadian electrical safety standards for commercial and industrial facilities.

EPH Certification
Select Berner air curtains are EPH certified to NSF standards for food service, healthcare, and sanitation-sensitive environments, verifying cleanability and hygienic design.

CE Marking
Several Berner products carry the CE mark, indicating compliance with all mandatory EU safety, health, and environmental laws required for the European market.
Industry Recommendations & Regulatory Guidance
Berner air curtains are frequently specified in applications influenced by sanitation, safety, energy, and indoor air quality recommendations across multiple industries.
FDA Food Code and USDA regulations recommend properly installed air curtains to support sanitation objectives and pest exclusion at food service and processing openings, provided velocity requirements are met.
Berner air curtains are an approved method for minimizing air infiltration under 10 CFR § 431.306, satisfying DOE federal energy conservation standards for walk-in coolers and freezers.
Berner drive-thru air curtains support OSHA guidelines for reducing employee exposure to fumes and exhaust from cars, while maintaining efficient customer service operations.
Berner air curtains support California regulations protecting pass-through spaces from the entrance and harborage of animals, birds, and vermin.
Berner products meet the requirements of Canada’s Energy Efficiency Act and Energy Efficiency Regulations as administered by Natural Resources Canada.
ASHRAE Handbooks
Industry Resources & Reference Materials
Berner regularly references recognized industry resources and engineering guidance to support proper application, specification, and performance evaluation.
ASHRAE Handbooks include air curtain guidance related to air movement, environmental separation, infiltration control, and HVAC energy efficiency.
