Berner International Announces New Air Curtain App to Control Architectural Air Curtains
Company Standardizes Patented IntelliswitchTM and Venturi Heaters Across Product Suite to Maximize Energy Efficiency & Ease-of-Use

Berner announced the Berner Air Curtain App. The Berner App, a first-of-its-kind air curtain app to control architectural air curtains from a smartphone, is available now at the Google Play Store and Apple App Store The company also standardized its patented digital controller, the Intelliswitch™, across its product suite of air curtains in the Berner Architectural category.
Both the app and the roll-out of the Intelliswitch™ will serve to simplify and enhance ease-of-use of air curtain operation everywhere. They have also given the capacity to more easily integrate technologies such as wireless controllers, apps, EC motors, and other capabilities into Berner air curtains.
To further its commitment to manufacturing energy-efficient products, Berner added its patented Venturi Heater to all electric heated Architectural air curtains, with the exception of the Low Profile series.
Introducing the New Berner Air Curtain App for Android and Apple Devices
The Berner Air Curtain App is the first mobile application to allow control of Berner air curtains from a smartphone. It allows users to program their Berner Air Curtain, change settings, and monitor usage. It is built to work with all five designs of Berner’s Architectural Series air curtains. The Berner air curtain app requires a built-in wireless controller to be ordered along with the air curtain itself.

The Intelliswitch™ Offers Ultimate Simplicity
Designed by Berner, this patented digital controller eliminates the need to figure out, select, and price various control packages as all the options are available on it. The IntelliswitchTM allows the end user to program the air curtain using preset modes or a custom program. This makes it easy to match the air curtain performance to the application. This switch is now standard on all Berner Architectural Series air curtains.
The Venturi Heater & Energy Efficiency in Air Curtains
Designed and patented by Berner, the innovative Venturi Heater design improves heated air curtain efficiencies by up to 40 percent more than other methods. The Venturi Heater fits on the outside of the fan housing allowing air to be warmed without blocking the flow of the air stream. It elegantly solves the issue of having to either place the heating coil in the intake – causing the temperature to drop a few degrees or in the outlet nozzle, causing the airstream to be disrupted.

Berner Adds BACnet and Adaptive Settings to Berner AIR™, the App for Air Curtains

Berner International, New Castle, Pa., North America’s leading air curtain manufacturer and HVAC innovator, has added adaptive settings and true BACnet compatibility to its Berner AIR™ to better support client sustainability goals. The Berner AIR is a smart controller and app platform that elegantly connects end-users to their air curtains and simplifies programming, operating and monitoring.
App’s adaptive settings energy-efficiently and automatically control air curtain’s air streams based on ambient weather conditions and doorway temperature.
The North American air curtain industry’s first app-based adaptive setting feature boosts energy efficiency by automatically calibrating the airstream performance according to the weather. Berner AIR’s onboard Intelliswitch™ controller reports local weather conditions (via the Berner AIR’s Internet connection), the doorway temperature (via an onboard sensor) and air curtain model data every 20 minutes to factory servers. Factory engineered software then uses a proprietary algorithms to determine the best volume, velocity and uniformity (VVU) balance for the given moment and adjusts the fan speed accordingly. Pinpointing the most energy-efficient of the 10 available air curtain fan speeds helps buildings meet energy conservation, sustainability and carbon footprint goals while also maintaining thermal comfort.
The newly-added BACnet communication capabilities is standard on Berner’s premium Architectural Elite 8 and 10 models and optional on all other Architectural Series air curtains when ordered with the Berner AIR. BACnet allows programming, operating and monitoring from the Berner smartphone app or the building management system (BMS).
The BACnet feature allows control of:
- Preset programming (Comfort Plus, Auto, and PureAir) for automated control
- Fan speed for more manual control
- Time delay; thermostat temperature set point and type
- Time/day set as well as start/stop times for match your building’s operating hours.
- Lock PASScode for additional security
Berner’s advanced technology platform began a decade ago with the development of the Intelliswitch, a digital controller that later served as a foundation for the 2017 introduction of Berner AIR, the North American HVAC industry’s first air curtain mobile app. Berner AIR 2.0 was added last year. The new secure, fully-encrypted platform provides the Berner AIR app for both Android and Apple devices, and allows over-the-air system updates.
